And so the Season Begins....

So basically I have been sitting here for about 20 minutes trying to write a good intro for the holiday season and it all sounds really cynical and sarcastic. So, I am just not going to do it. I love the holidays, I really do, but the fact that I literally tried to come up with some celebratory words for them for about 20 minutes should really tell something. So Thanksgiving. It's this Thursday and I am thoroughly excited. I get to escape from Memphis for a while and actually eat decent food and see my sister, who I haven't seen since August. It's been a long time. So what are we thankful for this year? Lets see, I will comprise a list of things I am thankful for and I am going to have to brainstorm. Okay so here we go:
1. I am really thankful for the gates around Rhodes College. If we didn't have these gates I would never walk across campus and would be terrified that someone might kill me 24/7.

2. I am thankful that I can go to this school. I really have no idea where else I would want to go to college. I mean, Stanford would have been great, but probably not possible. It is on the other side of the U.S. and I would be super homesick. And, it is really really expensive.

-Going back to number one, why I am thankful for the gates.. I have a story. So last night I went to play laser tag with a bunch of people and afterwards we went to Baskin Robbins so they could get some ice cream. So when we were leaving, I decided to ride in a different car so that a friend of mine could sit in the front since he was taller than I am (which is hard to accomplish) and I knew he would be cramped in the back. So, I get into the other car and this other car pulls up beside us, blocking us from immediately backing out and there is a man in the car with his window down trying to get our attention. I personally began to freak. He tells the girls in the front that he does not want to ask what he wants to ask to them because he feels it would be inappropriate, and that gets me freaking out even more. So he explains that his credit card is maxed out and has been denied everywhere and I began to think he wanted me to go with him somewhere and I thought hell no. I am not getting in a car with some strange Memphis man. He said that he was from Jackson, MS. and that he was about 45 minutes to an hour out and that he needed some gasoline but since his card was maxed and the gas stations kept turning him away he needed some help. So then it came down to money. The second time I have been asked for money in Memphis. He looked really upset and embarrassed so I gave him $10. I just really wanted to get back to school because this man was scaring me. He was really thankful. He said that if I would give him an address, a church name, anything, my favorite food place, he would somehow pay me back. I handed him the money and said don't worry about it. And then we left. I don't know whether to believe his story or not, but hey, we all answer to someone someday, and we never know who we are helping. I felt it was my second chance to do something good since I turned down the first person. So lets move on to #3!

3. I am thankful, as everyone should be, for family. We are all really close and that is something that is rare in a family. There aren't many of families like this anymore, and I am proud to be part of one.

4. I am thankful for friends. I am so thankful that I finally found a group of people who are nice and genuine, and are just amazing to be around.

5. I am thankful for my new roommate. We get along really well and have literally spoken more and done more together in 3 weeks than my other roommate and I did in 3 months. It is a drastic change and a good one because I really began to hate this school. I was miserable.

6. I am thankful for fate and circumstance. If it weren't for these hidden forces secretly determining the next phases of our lives I don't know what I would do. Things turn out how they turn out, and luckily they have been turning out for the best.

7. There are so many things to be thankful for, even the most basic things. I would like to say though that I am thankful for music. I can't imagine a life without music. I guess I would die.

So there you have it. I have listed 7 things that I am thankful for. What are you thankful for this holiday season? Do you have a story that you would like to share? If so, comment! I would love comments and stories and what you guys are thankful for. Trust me, I will respond! I just want to know that there is someone out there.

Until Next Time......
