It's been awhile but I'm back and Happy 2012! This may be the last year the human race exists! So let's do what we can while we have the time right? Then let's get to it. Coming into 2012 there were many stating how they were ready to welcome the new year and to leave 2011 (apparently a terrible year) in the past. I didn't think 2011 was a particularly bad year since I finished the semester with a 4.0 for the first time in my college career; however, there were definitely some low points. There were all of the natural disasters, the issues with the economy, and so on and so on. But honestly, aren't there always natural disasters? Isn't there always some sort of dissatisfaction with some aspect of the world? Aren't people dying everyday? Yes. My point is, humans are always going to find something to complain about, and in the spirit of complaining, I would like to start off 2012 by complaining about mankind and its unreliability.
My complaining is prompted due to my cable service provider. I received a letter in the mail informing me that I was supposed to receive more channels to my lineup. Noticing they weren't there, I decided to get online and ask for help about the situation because after all, I'm paying for them right? So I get online and tell the representative my story and she sends a signal to my box from her mysterious location which prompts awful clicking noises. Results: still no channels and she managed to break my DVR abilities. After trying again for good measure I decide on a technician appointment and schedule one for the hours between 3 and 5pm. I waited and waited an no one ever came, and on top of that, I missed an editorial staff meeting. So I get back online and am forced to complain for the inconvenience and schedule yet another appointment, again for the hours between 3 and 5 and I'm praying that they actually arrive this time.
Now this may seem petty to complain about but it's not so much about the inconvenience as it is about the frequency at which people are unreliable. And it's not like there are difficult circumstances. If you have an appointment and you have 2 hours to arrive, shouldn't you be able to make it or at least call and tell the customer that you were held up on another job and offer to reschedule then and there? Mankind's unreliability will be it's downfall because when we are unreliable, there is no one to blame but ourselves. For example, I'm heading into the healthcare field and hope to be a doctor at some point. Imagine if I were an unreliable doctor: There's a patient in the OR who has been prepped for surgery and I decide to be unreliable and not show up to the surgery or tell anyone of my absence. Imagine if I just decided to not do my rounds. Someone would die and I would be fired and lose my license. But I would have no one to blame but myself.
And then there are all of the end of the world theories. Can we really trust these theorists that on December 21, 2012 the world will end? Based on the trend in unreliability, I would say no. However, if we continue to be unreliable and not take responsibility for ourselves, then maybe the world will end by then. So on a final note before I finally start on my Microbiology homework... Be reliable and responsible in 2012 and pray that others will as well. Who knows, 2012 could be great. Now enough typing/reading. It's time for me to be responsible and study!
